Romac Series 7 Fabrication Package

Decimal dimensioned round tube Last update: August 18, 2005

The following applies to the these applications:

Production Control - version 7.0.44 and later

Inventory Control - version 7.0.29 and later

Purchase Orders - version 7.0.24 and later

Estimating - version 7.0.9 and later

Additionally, this applies to US Standard (imperial) descriptions only.  The enhancement does not apply to metric descriptions.

The ability to enter round tube with decimal dimensions has been added.  The new shape code for entering decimal round tube is TOD or HOD.  The TOD or HOD shape designation is used for data input purposes only, when displaying or printing decimal round tube, the programs will use the industry standard HSS shape.  You are limited to 3 decimal places for the dimension entries.

Typical entry for a decimal round tube would be TOD (or HOD) followed by space (or Enter) then the outside diameter, then X, then the wall thickness.  For example, the entry:

TOD 4 X .25    would be displayed as   HSS 4.000 x .250

Fractional dimension round tube can be still be entered using the TO shape.  For a single round tube entry, fractions and decimals cannot be mixed, but you can use fractional and decimal tube on the same project.

It will be necessary to add the decimal tube to the materials database and to your inventory.  The program does not attempt to translate between decimal and fractional dimensions when accessing the materials database or inventory.

There is no change in the method that square and rectangular tube is entered into the system.  The TS and HSS shapes can still be used.  Square and rectangular tube is entered and displayed using fractions only.
